MEDIA RELEASE - JULY 2008
Indonesian Dairy Farm Workers
Pilot Project

Five young men from East Java have started work on South Waikato dairy farms after three months intensive language and culture training in Malang and Taupo.
The men, who have two-year work visas, are being employed as assistant dairy farm managers.
Erlinawati, the director of Wellington-based Indonesian Labor Supply Ltd, said it took seven months of negotiations to complete the pilot project – a first for NZ and Indonesia.
“I’d like to thank Ambassador Amris Hassan and his staff at the Indonesian Embassy for helping make this project a success and ensuring everything was done legally,” she said. “A major effort has been put into the men’s pastoral care. I hope we can bring more skilled Indonesian workers into NZ in other industries like Hospitality.”
The men were recruited in East Java through manpower agent PT Binamandiri.
